Hello! It's Ikku ^^
This time, we will introduce the Rust server operated by Ikkun [JPN] IKKUNN Server (Tokyo) |Japan PvE Server [ASIA]
I would like to write an article about this.
Why did you open a Rust server?
Two weeks after starting Rust, I decided to open a server, and I'd like to explain why.
When I started using Rust, I thought it was necessary to understand the specifications first, so I started using it on some PvE servers.
I was playing. Every server was different from vanilla, but it wasn't PvP.
I enjoyed the game in an environment where I could play at my own pace. Due to the number of item stacks and the plugin specifications, the difficulty level was low for Ikku, so I didn't feel it was very challenging.
I think it's fine because it's defined as a beginner server,
For Ikku, "the more difficult the game, the more rewarding it is"
Here we have decided to open a server that is beginner-friendly, yet close to vanilla and has a difficult environment.
Also, all servers are slow due to plugins, etc., and "lag" such as "rollback" occurs.
This was quite stressful for me as an FPS gamer.
For the reasons above, I wanted to create an environment that was easy for Ikku to play in while being considerate of beginners, so I decided to open a server.
What was the server like at the start?
Basically, it's vanilla so there's no difference, but there were fewer plugins, so there was a difference in convenience. During the test period, Season 0, more than 70 people were playing on the server to include load testing, and there were some issues because there was a lack of understanding of the Rust server specifications.
Since this was still in the testing phase, I had not yet created a data backup program.
Unfortunately, there was also an incident where the map data became corrupted and could not be restored.
In the end, Season 1 started at the same time as the map wipe, so we had to quickly create a backup program.
Why not install a useful plugin?
There are many useful plugins that automatically organize your inventory, as well as plugins that increase convenience, such as teleports and zip lines.
Thankfully, we receive suggestions to "install" this plugin.
However, Ikku refuses to install plugins that would improve convenience.
I have administrator privileges, but when I play as Rust, I play under the same conditions as regular players. Of course, moving around is a hassle and organizing items takes time.
But that's what Rust is and what makes it fun.
One of the good things about this game is that you can plan things like building and item procurement during your travels, and the sense of accomplishment you get when you finish organizing your item box.
If the official site adds features like organizing items, then there's nothing we can do about it, but I think it's better without it.
Going off topic a little, "Monster Hunter Rise" has an item organization function that is very useful.
Monster Hunter has one item box and infinite item stacks.
Furthermore, since there are a large number of items, an item organization function is essential.
As for Rsut, you can place any number of item boxes and they can all be identified, so I don't think there's much need for organization functions.
Convenience can be improved
Some plugins are introduced to improve convenience, such as building upgrades. When upgrading materials for a building, you have to select each one individually, but if there are a lot of them, it can be a hassle.
Because it is a PvE server, unlike PvP servers, there is no need for raids or efficient use of space, so large buildings and open spaces can be used widely, and the amount of construction increases accordingly. Therefore, differences from vanilla arise due to the characteristics of PvE in areas where construction should normally be done with the bare minimum. Therefore, we have introduced a plugin that allows simultaneous upgrades and allows users to pay for server support to improve convenience.
We are currently considering cases where the game is originally vanilla for PvP, but there may be differences due to the characteristics of PvE.
About server support
We are grateful to receive server support from many people, which helps cover server operating costs.
We also hear concerns about the lack of profits.
This server is not run for profit and is run purely as a hobby.
However, the cost of electricity and other expenses such as air conditioning and dedicated server lines are not small. Therefore, in exchange for their support, we are granting them in-game privileges.
Even if we were to make a profit, we would need to install paid plugins to update the server, buy new PCs for the server, and open a PvP server or a server with various other features.
I would like to only do things that are aimed at everyone.
Currently, the balance is negative, so we are operating in the status quo.
I would like to do something like that if the number of supporters increases and it becomes a positive thing.
In the end, even if there is a profit, Ikku's life will not become richer, so don't worry.
Running a server is also a hobby, so I'm spending money on my hobby.
As an aside, the reward for a YouTube job is a gift of the FPS game Titanfall.
I've given presents to about 20 people, so sometimes I even think to myself, I'm such an idiot.
FAQ
Finally, there are some frequently asked questions on the server that I would like to answer while introducing them.
Q: Is it possible to increase item stack counts?
A: We are not considering changing it since it is a vanilla version. Also, if we increase the stack limit, it will be possible to build huge structures, and the difficulty level will change due to the number of recovery items you can carry during battle. Therefore, we are basically keeping it as a vanilla version.
Q: Is it possible to create PvP areas and other areas where you can raid and battle?
A: Because this is a PvE server, we are not considering setting up a PvP area except for NPC raids. However, we are considering introducing a plugin that generates terrain high in the sky so that it is invisible and conducts PvP battles there, as long as it is completely isolated from the normal map and does not cause any harm to regular players.
Q: Is it possible to increase the smelting speed of a furnace?
A: We are not considering changing the furnace refining speed. We are not making any changes because we want players to get used to the vanilla environment.
The vanilla setting is the default.
If we determine that changes are okay to make, we either implement them or make them available only to supporters.

By the way,
I work during the week and act as a streamer/commentator in my free time. I also manage the server in between work, when I'm traveling, and when I'm off, so I'm always doing something.
This was a fairly long post, but thank you for reading!
We look forward to your continued support of the Rust server! 🍏
